Data Center Cleaning Questions, Answered
Server Room Cleaning
Can our regular janitorial crew just clean the server room?
Often they are not allowed in, and if they are, standard brooms, dusters and mop buckets are the wrong tools near electronics. Our crews use HEPA vacuums and dry or barely damp low-lint methods and work to a written scope.
Will you need to power anything down?
No. We do not touch, move or switch off any equipment. If your own team wants a maintenance window for other reasons, we can work inside it.
Do you clean inside the racks?
No. Interior cleaning of racks and equipment is excluded. We clean exteriors, doors, tops and the surfaces around them.
Raised Floor Cleaning
Is raised floor cleaning done wet or dry?
Dry first, always. Where the finish and the site allow it, a controlled-moisture pass follows, using a damp low-lint pad rather than a mop and bucket. Nothing is flooded.
How do you handle perforated airflow tiles?
They are vacuumed rather than wiped so the perforations stay clear. If the site permits lifting, both faces are cleaned. Nothing that could leave residue is used on them.
What is the difference between raised floor cleaning and subfloor cleaning?
Raised floor cleaning is the exposed walking surface of the panels. Subfloor cleaning is the plenum beneath them: slab, pedestals, stringers and the outside of containment, reached by lifting tiles under the facility's rules. The underfloor work needs separate authorization, planning and pricing, which is why it is its own service.
Subfloor Plenum Cleaning
How many tiles do you open at once?
That is set by your facility, not by us. Many sites limit open bays to a handful at a time with barriers around them. The proposal records the limit and the crew works to it.
Can this be done while the hall is live?
Usually yes, in sections and within your change windows, provided the site allows tile lifting in a live hall. Some operators prefer plenum work during a maintenance window; we fit either approach.
What happens if you find water or damage under the floor?
The crew stops, closes the bay, and reports it to your contact with a photo. We do not continue in that section until you say so.
Post-Construction Data Center Cleaning
When should post-construction cleaning happen?
In phases. One pass after rough-in, one before commissioning runs cooling and power, and a final pass before handover. Cleaning only once at the end means dust has already been drawn into the systems.
Will you sign off that the hall meets a cleanliness standard?
No. We complete the agreed scope and record it. Acceptance against any particle target or standard is done by your commissioning agent or owner's representative.
Can you work alongside other trades?
Yes, within the areas the GC releases to us and under the site's safety plan. Cleaned areas are barriered so they are not re-contaminated before handover.
Data Center Maintenance Cleaning
What does data center cleaning include?
Typically the data hall floors (raised or solid), closed cabinet and PDU exteriors, ledges and door hardware, support rooms and corridors, and, on longer cycles, perforated tiles, the plenum and overhead trays. The exact list is written per facility against its access rules; nothing inside equipment is included.
How often should a data hall be cleaned?
It depends on traffic, nearby construction, how the cooling moves air and what your standards require. Entry and staging areas usually need attention most often; the plenum least often. We propose a starting cadence per area and adjust it from the visit records.
Do we get a record of each visit?
Yes. Each visit closes with a completed checklist for the areas covered, which you keep for your own audits or client reporting.
Can the plan start with just one hall?
Yes. Many plans begin with a single hall or a support corridor and expand once the routine is working.
Can cable trays and overhead areas be cleaned?
Yes, as a scoped line inside a maintenance plan or a post-construction phase. Access equipment, barriers and which rows can be worked over are agreed in advance, and the cables themselves are never touched. See overhead cable tray cleaning for the details.
Data Center Deep Cleaning
What is the difference between deep cleaning and maintenance cleaning?
Maintenance cleaning is a recurring routine with a fixed scope per visit. Deep cleaning is a one-off pass over every reachable surface in an area, usually to reset a facility before a plan starts or after something has gone wrong.
Can you deep clean after a fire-suppression discharge or a leak?
Once any hazardous residue has been dealt with by a remediation specialist and your team has signed the space off, yes. We handle the surface cleaning that follows, not the hazardous part.
